C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP-22) is found in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid. CNP-22 is an agonist for the natriuretic peptide receptor NPR2 (NPRB) and has affinity for NPR3 (NPRC3). CNP-22 inhibits L-type calcium currents in myocytes and has antiproliferative effects in cardiac fibroblasts in vitro. It regulates cartilage homeostasis, body fluid volume and has vasodilatory activity in vivo.
