CDKN2A acts as a negative regulator of the proliferation of normal cells by interacting strongly with CDK4 and CDK6. This interaction inhibits CDKs binding to cyclins D and phosphorylation of the retinoblastoma protein. Defects in CDKN2A are the cause of numerous cancers such as melanoma and astrocytoma.The synthetic peptide used to raise the antibody Cat.
